History

Formation

This Association was formed in 1977 by descendants of Francois Violet, who settled in the St. John River valley near what is now Van Buren, Maine, in 1789. Rita Violette Lippe (#1) had done considerable genealogical research, and a group thought it would be fun to have “family reunion”. This event was held in Methuen, Massachusetts, and was so well attended that those there decided to have another reunion the following year, in Augusta, Maine. From there, Reunions have been held every three years, with the next one coming up in 2008.

Organization

The Association has Officers that are elected at the Business Meeting of the Association at each Reunion. The Officers are elected for a three-year term.

Membership

The Association has a membership of more than 2000 people .

Activities

We publish an irregular newsletter with news of our members and their families.

We have Reunions every three years, each in a different location.

Dues

Though the Association has never adopted an official dues structure, we suggest that members donate an amount of $6.00 per person every three years to offset the costs of newsletter publication.
